REALTOR of Distinction: Judy Hargett
Judy Hargett didn't go out looking for a career in real
estate... it came looking for her...literally! In the late 80's, her
friends and owners of a real estate company on the island called to ask what she would
think about coming to work with them.
"It was certainly win-win-win opportunity for me", states Judy. "Our
family enjoyed living on Isle of Palms so much and the thought of
introducing people to Charleston area properties was definitely
something I would enjoy. Working with good friends was a positive and my
background was in sales! The rest is history...I've been a real
estate professional ever since. I love real estate and the folks at Island Realty."
Judy has a "must do" list for all her clients: Create a comfortable,
friendly atmosphere in which to communicate, listen well to understand
what her client hopes to accomplish, Strive to offer top-notch personal
service and, always practice and honor the REALTOR Code of Ethics.
"The most rewarding part of real estate is the smile we receive from our
clients letting us know we've done a good job and they were satisfied
with our service."
"Education is so important in our ever changing real estate market. As
professionals, we need to benefit from advanced education. Learning
about changes in real estate law, technology and marketing are important
factors for staying on the cutting edge of our profession."
Her passion for learning is reflected in the long list of professional
designations she's earned in the field of real estate. They include GRI
(Graduate, REALTORS Institute), CRS, (Certified Residential
Specialist), C-CREC (Certified Consumer Real Estate Consultant), and
e-Pro.
Judy is one of the charter members of the East Cooper Top Producers
Club, and served as the organization's first president. She currently
serves on the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS, Professional
Standards committee. Judy list and sales properties throughout the
Charleston Lowcountry. Our family lived at Wild Dunes for 12 years, and
now live in Mount Pleasant. "We considered living in Mount
Pleasant...the best of both worlds. Living in Mount Pleasant and working
on Isle of Palms we really have a broad knowledge of both."
Judy and her husband, Dick, have a relationship that goes beyond their
decades of marriage, their two adult sons, one beautiful granddaughter,
and their affection for Taffy, the couple's miniature Dachshund. About
five years ago, the Hargetts decided to team-up in the real estate
business, which has been a blessing for them. "Now our clients now have
two real estate professionals on their side," says Judy.
According to Judy, much of her business is from repeat clients and
referrals. "I value the relationship I have with my clients; keeping in
touch is a top priority," notes Judy. Vacationers are also a resource
for her. Second home & Investment buyers expect their agent to be well
versed on financing options, rental projections, rate of appreciation
and the 1031 Tax Deferred Exchange. I can help with that."
She continues, "Part of the excitement and challenges of real estate
is putting the pieces of the puzzle together for the client. I enjoy
people and my profession. I like to bring some fun into what otherwise
can be a complicated process."
